So I got my act together and have set a date for the next meeting. We are aiming for 9/16/08.  Once again the meeting will be at Greater Goods, starting around 8pm. All the parts necessary to complete our mobile robot platform will be supplied. I want to apologize for the long delay between collecting the meeting payment and having the meeting, I hope this never happens again. Looking forward to continuing this project!

I didn’t have a chance to organize the Make:DC group order for the motors, so I am going to have to push the next meeting back 3 weeks to tentatively July 10th.

I will make sure this group order includes everything we need to finish the robots. My target price is $20 per person, but I am hoping to beat that down to $15. email meetings@makedc.org if you are interested, then I will send out PayPal invoices like last time. Sorry for the delay.

The Jue 5th meeting is sold out, but this will also be an organizing meeting, so feel free to come by and help formally organize Make:DC. We will talk about roles people can volunteer for, future projects, etc. And someone will probably feel sorry for you and let you help with some soldering!

We need a preliminary head count for participants in the next Make:DC meeting. Please email meetings@makedc.org if you are interested. This will be a two part meeting, with the first meeting on Thursday, 6/5 and the second on Thursday, 6/19. We are estimating that the kit will cost $20-25, but this varies with quantity, so a preliminary head count will help us determine the actual cost. Once the cost is finalized I will take PayPal deposits for the kits later this week.

What:   A PARTS PARTY?!

Why:    We started HacDC to give DC a place to make, build, disassemble, code, learn and do all the awesome things you can do in a “hacker space”.  Like nycresistor.com in New York and thehacktory.org in Philly, DC now has its own collaboration and creative space, HacDC!  However, we can’t do it without your support.  We rely on you! 
 
How:    Get to our parrty and bring something to help build our space.  Anything from:
 
* Tools!  (Power tools, electronic test equipment, soldering irons, etc.)
* Furniture (especially folding chairs and shelving!)
* Electronics (working and non-working things we can disassemble!)
* Food and Beverages (to keep us going while we work on projects!)
 
We’re also looking for charter members, people who are dedicated to building a stronger DIY/Hacker community in DC.  We are a non-profit DC organization seeking 501(c)(3) status, and all of our work goes directly back into the community through educational, scientific and cultural channels.

Make:DC was invited to lead BEAM robot building workshops at Robotfest (www.robotfest.com/).  We need a few volunteers with good soldering skills to come help with the workshop.  Email meetings@makedc.org if you are interested!

The meeting is being pushed back to get caught up with our suppliers.  We promise it will be worth the wait.  At the next meeting we will get some volunteers for project ideas and administrative help…
